Active AAUP membership is open to teaching faculty, researchers, librarians, and    
     academic professionals
Other AAUP memberships are open to graduate students, administrators, and  
      supporters of higher education
All AAUP membeers receive a subscription to Academe, the Association's bimonthly journal, which explores topics such as distance learning and intellectual property, governance, and the appointment of part-time and non-tenure-track faculty members.

Membership Categories
Full-Time: Teacher/researcher or similar academic appointment at an accredited college or university.

Entrant: Nontenured faculty, new to AAUP for up to 7 years. Entrant I: First 4 years of membership at 1/2 dues. Entrant II: 5th to 7th year at 3/4 dues.

Part-Time: Faculty receiving no more than 50% of the salary of a full-time faculty member.

Associate: Primarily administrative responsibilities.

Joint: Spouse of member in full-time category.

Graduate: Persons enrolled as graduate students at an institution; 5 year limit.

Public: Public supporters not eligible for any of the above categories.

AAUP Chapters
More than 450 colleges and universities have active AAUP chapters. Institutions with seven or more national members may form campus-based chapters.

State Conferences
The Assembly of State Conferences, the national coalition of AAUP state organizations, advances the work of state conferences through leadership training, regional meetings, grants and scholarships, and membership development.

Services to Chapters and State Conferences
The AAUP offers advice and assistance, including legal analysis, to chapters and conferences. Among AAUP services are:

    Two summer institutes:
        The Collective Bargaining Institute
        The Leadership Training Institute

    Financial data analyses:
        analysis of fringe benefits
        college budgets
        IRS 990 forms

    Faculty handbook reviews
    State and campus visits by officers and staff
    Legislative analysis and strategy consultation

Collective Bargaining Congress
The Collective Bargaining Congress, the national coalition of AAUP collective bargaining chapters, provides support to collective bargaining chapters through grants, workshops, leadership training at the Summer Institute, and membership development.
